Why do so many telephone numbers have 666 in them as opposed to 777 etc?

Has anyone ever looked at this statistically? Why do so many telephone numbers have 666 in them as opposed to 777 etc?
How did you come to this conclusion, other than just noticing 666 more?

Where would you get a large enough collection (several million, or at least hundred thousand) of valid phone numbers to run a test? Why do so many telephone numbers have 666 in them as opposed to 777 etc?
From a phone numbering perspective, all phone numbers in the North American Numbering Plan are NPA-NXX-XXXX. The NXX is the prefix and the XXXX is the line number, with the NPA being the area code. Logical placements for 666 and 777 would be equal in the prefix, and within the first three or last three digits of the line number; and therefore, unless there is some other item at play here (e.g., vanity numbers, ';gold numbers';, custom numbers, and used numbers that have not yet been put into the possible number pool) both sets should appear equally in all exchanges.

Because phone companies don't believe in Satan, THEY ARE SATAN.
